The Editorial Room

Words, design, and everything we put into the world.

The Editorial meeting is where we work on the Stimpunks website and print materials — writing, editing, and designing for publication. Whether you’re a writer, editor, designer, or someone who just cares deeply about how we communicate, join us.

On the table

What goes on the light table is a proof, laid out so that every line and every margin can be seen through before anything is sent out. This one says when the meeting is, in our events page’s own words, with the hour on your own clock underneath.

  1. The Editorial meeting

Every Thursday · 10:00–11:00 AM CT

The call

This call is open to anybody. Type the name you want to be called, and knock: you wait in the lobby until a moderator lets you in. Everybody who is not a moderator knocks, signed on to the CB or not, and the moderators are the base station, who are in here at the times on the list above. Between those times there may be nobody to open the door.

A Note on Communication Access. We support multiple modes of participation including text chat, audio, and video — whatever works for your communication needs on a given day. You do not need to speak to belong here.

The call is run by 8x8’s Jitsi as a Service. Your camera and microphone start off, the name you are called by goes to 8x8 inside your pass into the call, and we keep nothing about a call. What goes where.

Why a light table

A light table lights a page from behind, so what is on it can be seen through: a margin that is out, a line that has slipped, two sheets that do not register. That is what an editorial meeting does to everything we put into the world, before it goes. The studio round it is dark, so the only thing you look at is the work. Nothing in this room moves, at any setting.

Whose words

Every line about when is our events page’s, word for word, read off stimpunks.org/events on 2026-09-25, and tools/make-coworking.py reads that page again every time it builds this room and its door. The hour on your own clock is worked out in your browser.

Young Serif is Bastien Sozeau’s and DM Sans is Colophon Foundry’s, both under the SIL Open Font License; the room is ours. More in the liner notes.

Job marker — a loupe, left lying on the proofs

You have found a job marker. The Adventurer’s Guild is a shopfront on the street, and it posts jobs that send you round these rooms. Take the code below to its board and that job is done. Nothing here is scored, nothing expires, and one is a perfectly good number of jobs to do.

The job: When the proofs are checked

Before the code: At what time, Central time, does the Editorial meeting start?

Hint 1

It is on the proof on the table.

Hint 2

Read the line under The Editorial meeting.

Last hint

The same hour as the Operations meeting, two days later.

Give me the answer

The answer is 10:00 AM. Every Thursday, 10:00 to 11:00 AM Central, in our events page's own words, and the room works out the same hour on your own clock underneath.

Taking the answer is a real way through this, not a lesser one. Nothing is watching and nothing is written down.
