The Reading Room

Every book I keep, a fire that has caught, and a chair that is yours while you are in it.

The yurt got too full of books, so they have a room of their own now, through the bookcase door. It is lit by the fire and by candles that never flicker, the walls are claret and the arches go up to points, and there is a sofa and two chairs turned to the hearth. Take any book off a shelf and it opens its author’s page. Nobody will ask what you are reading, or how far you have got.

HOW LOUD DO YOU WANT IT?

Starts wherever your device says. In here nothing moves at any setting unless you ask it to, below; the candles stand still.

The Bookcases

One case for each kind of book, alphabetical inside each by surname, and every spine a door: press one and it opens the author’s page on Wikipedia, or their own site where Wikipedia has none. Two of the cases are mine: what I have written and what has cited or carried it, and the ebooks and training packs at Autistic Realms. The last case is the artists whose paintings cannot hang in the gallery back in the yurt because their work is still their own.

More arriving as I remember what I’ve lent out and never got back.

Job marker — a ribbon bookmark left in a borrowed book

You have found a job marker. The Adventurer’s Guild is a shopfront on the street, and it posts jobs that send you round these rooms. Take the code below to its board and that job is done. Nothing here is scored, nothing expires, and one is a perfectly good number of jobs to do.
