Fantasy Fancy Dress

Wings, ears, tails, paws, beads and dress-up suits, for your bodymind.

Behind the Dopamine Dress-Up Den, through a curtain, is a shop for dressing up: faery wings from small to enormous, animal ears on soft bands, tails, paws, bead necklaces, rings and bracelets, onesies, and tiger, bear, dragon and unicorn suits. Everything in here needs somebody to wear it, so it goes on a bodymind, the one you drew at the Bodymind Booth and brought through, and never on the Dress-Up Den’s valet stand. Every piece comes in every print and colourway the Dress-Up Den has, all black included, and nothing has to go with anything: a tiger suit with moth wings and bunny ears is a look.

The fitting

Bring your bodymind through from the Dress-Up Den and it is drawn here, wearing whatever you pick off these rails.

The rails are below, every piece with how it feels and how it goes on and comes off.

House rules

  1. Everything goes on a bodymind. A tail or a pair of ears needs somebody to wear it, so nothing in here hangs on the Dress-Up Den’s stand. With nobody brought through, the fitting draws somebody at random, a different somebody every time, because no body is the one this shop starts from.
  2. Every piece says how it feels and how it goes on and comes off, the same as next door. Wings loop over the shoulders and go round nothing; ears sit on soft bands; tails clip to a waistband; paws leave the fingers free; every suit has a big zip pull you can find without looking.
  3. Wings fold flat for sitting back in a chair, and a tail lies to one side. Everything here is drawn on your bodymind as it is, on its feet or sitting down, and nothing put on here takes off anything you always have with you.
  4. Every piece comes in every print and every colourway the Dress-Up Den has, all black included. Each rail opens on a first suggestion, and that is all it is.
  5. Nothing has to go with anything. Dragon claws with a velvet choker and great faery wings is as good a look as any.
  6. Nothing in here is kept or sent. Your bodymind came in through the address and goes back to the Dress-Up Den the same way, and keeping it as an avatar is done there, when you press Keep.

Whose this is

This shop is Helen Edgar’s idea. She asked on 2026-10-15 for an annexe to the Dopamine Dress-Up Den, which was her idea too: faery wings big and small in every colour, jewellery, beads and rings, onesies, tiger, bear, dragon and unicorn outfits, and animal ears, tails and paws. She chose the name on the sign, and she chose that everything here is worn by your bodymind.

The drawings are the house’s. Every piece is worked out again from the bodymind it is put on, its shoulders, middle, hips, height and how it gets about, so wings fit whoever wears them and a dragon tail lies the right way off a wheelchair seat.

tools/make-fancy-dress.py builds these rails out of one data file and refuses rather than guesses. It will not hang a piece that does not say how it feels and how it comes off, a piece nothing can draw, or a word next door refuses, from sizes and gendered rails to fashion rules and scores, and it will not let this room’s script keep or send anything.

The type is Abril Fatface, by TypeTogether, for the sign, and Kumbh Sans, by Saurabh Sharma, for everything you read, both under the SIL Open Font License.

Job marker — one faery wing come loose from its pair, on the floor

You have found a job marker. The Adventurer’s Guild is a shopfront on the street, and it posts jobs that send you round these rooms. Take the code below to its board and that job is done. Nothing here is scored, nothing expires, and one is a perfectly good number of jobs to do.

The job: A wing come loose

Before the code: In Fantasy Fancy Dress, what do the wings do so you can sit back in a chair?

Hint 1

It is in the third of the house rules.

Hint 2

The great faery wings say it too, under how they go on.

Last hint

Flat.

Give me the answer

The answer is They fold flat. Everything in that shop is drawn on your bodymind as it is, on its feet or sitting down, so wings fold flat for sitting back in a chair and a tail lies to one side.

Taking the answer is a real way through this, not a lesser one. Nothing is watching and nothing is written down.

Quest code: GOSSAMER

HOW LOUD DO YOU WANT IT?

Starts wherever your device says. Nothing moves, flashes, or plays until you say so.
