The Brass Tacks Board
News, notices, events, celebrations, and anything meant to last
The Pebble Board is what our people bring each other, edition by edition. This board is for what has to stay put: news, notices, events, celebrations and posts, each on a brass plate tacked to an old copper wall gone green, and kept until it is taken down. Anybody can read it. Our moderators post on it, and every post carries the username of the moderator who put it up, so you always know who to ask about it. It has a feed of its own, for feed readers.
Pin something up
You are signed on as a moderator, so you can post. Your username goes on the post for everybody to see. You can edit your own posts afterwards, and any moderator can take any post down.
On the board
Reading the board needs scripts. The feed has every post without them.
How the board works
- Anybody can read it, signed on or not, and its feed carries every post to feed readers, so search engines may find them too.
- Only a moderator can post, signed on to the CB as a moderator, and their username is on the post, public, for good.
- The moderator who posted it can edit it, and the post says it was edited and when. Any moderator can take any post down, picture and all.
- Posts stay until they are taken down. There is no other copy and no archive, and nothing on the board is counted: no views, no likes, no most-read.
- A post is words, written in Markdown: headings, lists, quotes, tables, code and links. A link goes to an address on the web, an email address, or somewhere on the street, and a link off the street shows where it goes. Nothing typed into a post becomes code on the page.
- A post can carry a picture. It is redrawn in the moderator’s browser first, which takes off everything a camera writes into a file, the place it was taken first; it needs a description; and the moderator says that everybody recognisable in it has said yes to it being here. It goes when its post goes. What the board keeps.
The board
Ryan’s idea, for the things the CB forgets at midnight and the Pebble Board was never for. The wall, the plates and the tacks are drawn for this board. It is set in Bellefair, by Nick Shinn and Liron Lavi Turkenic, and Merriweather, by Sorkin Type, and credited in the liner notes.
Job marker — a brass tack that fell out of a plate, lying point up on the pavement under the board
You have found a job marker. The Adventurer’s Guild is a shopfront on the street, and it posts jobs that send you round these rooms. Take the code below to its board and that job is done. Nothing here is scored, nothing expires, and one is a perfectly good number of jobs to do.
The job: Whose name is on a post?
Before the code: Who can post on the Brass Tacks Board?
Hint 1
It is in how the board works.
Hint 2
It is the people with BASE beside their name on the CB.
Last hint
They look after the CB.
Give me the answer
The answer is The moderators. Only a moderator can post, and their username is on the post for everybody to see.
Taking the answer is a real way through this, not a lesser one. Nothing is watching and nothing is written down.
