On the wall, in turn

In the order they went up. Each one says what is painted on it, because the wall itself is paint.

1. Queer without fear on the wall now

   A rainbow in six broad bands, red through violet, arching up from the foot of the wall on a navy ground scattered with small cream stars, and across the top a cream banner with its ends notched, painted in navy capitals: QUEER WITHOUT FEAR.

2. Interdependent and here

   A hillside cut open like a page. Above the ground, a sunflower, a tuft of grass, a red-capped mushroom, a round tree, a fern and a tulip, none of them alike. Below it, in the brown soil, each of their roots runs down into one pale net of threads that joins every one of them to every other. Across the pale sky, in dark brown capitals: INTERDEPENDENT AND HERE.

3. Divergent and proud

   An orange wall with a huge yellow sun in the middle of it and a purple tree at the foot, its branches spreading every way at once, and a flock of purple birds leaving it in every direction, no two of them flying the same way. Across the top, in purple capitals: DIVERGENT AND PROUD.

   The idea: the third line of the street’s own tagline, which is Stimpunks’. Painted by the house.

4. Living out loud

   A deep raspberry wall with a navy speaker cabinet on the left, its two cones in yellow, throwing yellow rings of sound out across the paint, and yellow lightning bolts zigzagging off to the right. On the right, in big cream capitals over two lines: LIVING OUT LOUD.

5. Plucky pluralism, for human organisms

   A pale green wall covered in small living things, every one of them different: a snail, a bee, a daisy, a grey pebble, a fern leaf, a blue fish, a ladybird, a little mushroom, an orange star and a falling leaf, spread across the paint with room round each of them. Across the top, in dark green capitals over two lines: PLUCKY PLURALISM, FOR HUMAN ORGANISMS.

6. Becoming and belonging, with ribald songing

   A dusk-blue wall with three telephone wires sagging across it and birds of five colours sitting along them with their beaks open, yellow notes rising out of them, a caterpillar on the lowest wire and a butterfly lifting off beside it. Along the foot, in yellow capitals over two lines: BECOMING AND BELONGING, WITH RIBALD SONGING.

   The idea: the sixth line of the street’s own tagline, which is Stimpunks’. Painted by the house.

A mural of your own

If there is something you would like painted on this wall, tell us, and the house will paint it and put it up in turn with the rest.

• Words, not a picture. Say what is on it, what it says if it says anything, and the colours. The house paints it, the way the rest of the wall is painted.
• Nobody real is painted on this wall. A person on it is nobody in particular, because a face is somebody’s own, and a mural of a real person would be putting them up on a street they never asked to be on.
• Your idea goes up with your name on it, and your words beside the mural exactly as you give them. Say how you want to be named, or be somebody in our community.
• Nothing is voted on. A mural goes up in the order it arrives and takes its turn with all the others.
• It comes down the moment you ask, and down means painted over rather than hidden.

How the wall works

• The wall turns over by itself at MAX GLITTER and nowhere else. A picture that changes without being asked is something moving on the page, and at Gentle and Regular nothing moves until you ask it to. Turning it over yourself dissolves one mural into the next at Regular, and simply swaps them at Gentle.
• Keep this one up holds the wall on the mural you like for as long as you are on the page. Nothing about it is stored, and nobody knows which one you held.
• Nothing is counted. Not the murals, not how long anybody looked at one, and there is no favourite of the week, because nothing here watches what you look at.
• Every mural is the house’s own painting. None of them is a photograph of a real mural, because a mural is its painter’s work wherever it stands, and a picture of one is a copy of somebody else’s wall.
• The first ones are the street’s own tagline, a line to a mural, which is Stimpunks’. The idea of a street that repaints itself is Danny’s, and Danny is DC Comics’: where Danny came from. Nothing of DC’s is painted on the wall.
